Hi there, I am an A-level product design student and for this years project I have decided to make a product that is similar to a cubby box. This product will fit series three land rovers (as this car is my weekend project). There are two places that I can think of where the box could go which are in between the front two seats and spare space within the dash board, I was wondering if there are any laws governing what I can put into my cubby box(as I was thinking of including a CB radio etc.) and the placement of the box. If anyone has any ideas that I could use in my design or if they have any problems that they have in their series that could be rectified by this product. All suggestions are welcome :)

May I make a suggestion a cubby box is very good and good luck with that. I would think center roof console to fit a stereo with speakers, a cb and to hold some greenlaning maps would be ever so helpful and worthy of a serious grade. some kind of fibreglass jobbie covered in black leatheret type pvc from dunelm

I have been looking at aluminium and I think it would be a good idea for the finish it would give.

Check out MUD console something that runs centrally between the roof about 12 inches wide fron windscreen to rear of where a truck cab would be speakers either side stereo CB and some storage would be handy out of water out of the way and keeps the dash and centre seat. I have zero use for my middle seat in my 90 BUT it makes it look tidy when empty. When I had a cubby box it was always full of crap and always in the way.

Where abouts are you which County?? Maybe some helpful LZ'rs can help with ideas. If you start with layers of mdf to make the shape you want with a sander once finnished you could spray it with a release agent and fibreglass it. If its good enough I'm sure you could sell some to your locals for £20 or £30 to fund the series. Another good source aswell as LZ is your local Landrover club check out here for a club local to you

there are plenty of places you could put extra storage, the roof is a handy one for cb radio, cd player, speakers, map etc.

In the dash you can get the cb and cd player, just got to make sure the dash is deep enough to fit them and the wiring. Id also factor in places for extra swiches (at some point in time they'll be handy) and 12v sockets would be useful for satnavs and such like.

with a cubby box between the seats i think it'd lean itself more towards storage than a place for cb radio and stuff. Instead it'd be large place to keep things securely, cup holders, tool storage too possibly. again 12v sockets are usually useful too. maybe there is a place for an inverter too?

There are loads of options really but it means there is plenty of space within the design brief too.

Remenber with most a level projects like this you need to show development through out, so make sure your first designs are **** simple, even if you already know what you want to make
