Noticed a bit of play in the top balljoint on the axle of my 110.
Plus a clonk on taking up drive (OK, its a Landrover, I know...)
Are these a bit nasty to do? It all looks seriously crusty and like it has been there since 1995.
Also guessing buy a genuine joint if possible?
There is quite a bit of backlash on the axle too. Is this normal on a Salisbury?
Thanks for the advice,
Jim.

I did mine on my 110 I am rebuilding buy a ball joint and fulcrum. As I found it impossible to get the ball joint out of the fulcrum might of done it if I had a gas axe, and some serious heat.

Thanks, I've seen these on Ebay.
Does seem a good move , rather than immobilising the car and taking the joint to work to press it out.
Which make did you use? Hear mixed things about Britpart.
Is Lemsforder ok?
Best regards,
Jim.

So far I have always managed to whack them out using a 2lb ball bein hammer (it's smaller than a mallet and you can strike the ball joint rather than the surrounding areas). Cut the wings off using a thin cutting disk, support the fulcrum (I prefer blocks of wood rather than a vice for fear of breaking the vice) and whack away. Slow, solid blows. I knock the new one in using a hub nut box spanner cushioned by a piece of wood. I have never had to resort to a press.

I tend to use lemsforder or bearmach - in terms of getting the BJ out, then if you haven't got a gas axe, or a good press ( or both sometimes  - they sure do like to grow into each other ), then buy the BJ and fulcrum as one - new bolts too if you're feeling "flush" - about £60 on flea bay all in... often worth the extra just for the time and grief it saves:)

Sometimes end up with the "wide angle" ones - but i have no idea if this is worth doing or not - perhaps someone else can comment ??:)

When I pressed the joint out of the bracket I fitted longer m8 bolts to the joint to allow the joint to be pressed out without cutting the corners off, it sits on the bold heads. Just saved time and hassle.

When I did mine I put it in a vise and heated it up followed by some serious beating with a hammer and I think resorted in a press straight after... Get yourself the fulcrum and ball joint. Alot easier and maybe two new long bolts

When I did mine I put the old ball joint in a press to get it out of the bracket and put 25 tons on it but it wouldn't shift. There's a picture somewhere here https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/springs-and-things.239690/page-2 It bent the fulcrum bracket, which is itself fairly thick so it shows there must have been some force there. Much easier to get the balljoint and bracket as a complete thingy. Some of the more expensive ones say they're adjustable and have a grease nipple on.
