a few p38 issues 2.5td

hi there fellow p38 owners!

i have a few issues for you all,

first one! brake pedal sometimes goes in quite a bit before brakes kick in but apply it a few times pressure builds and its fine but seems to be getting worse.

second one! air suspension is fine when driving along but if you stop sit still for a while then its fails and pumps it up to full height?

third one! hard to start when cold will start eventually but loads of smoke changed heater plugs no change sometimes the injector light flashes only for a second very randamly.

fourth one! loud like clunk from rear end maybe diff not sure it happens when you change direction when your moving it wont happen again. axle change?

last but not least! i need a ac pump i have one but the pipes dont seem to fit at all so not sure if i have wrong part number

1. change the accumulator
2. don't understand. it rises by itself?? never seen that before. height sensors then or driver pack (EAS ECU).
3. ffs get rid of the doozil and get a propa V8
4 / 5. no idea.

Check the front and rear propshaft UJ joints, ive recently has this problem and turned out it was the front prop...
For hard cold starting id check the glow plug relay and check with voltage meter for 12v at the glow plugs etc...
The brake problem could be somthing simple like master cylinder with leaky seals letting fluid pass....
And the EAS problem.... havent got a clue... its a P38 and they are sent to try us

1) Sounds like the driver pack, yesterday mine did the same thing, waiting to see if it gets worse

2) Did you fit OEM (BERU) glowplugs? If not it's probably crap glowplugs. If your glowplugs are good check that you are getting 12 volts on the power rail to the glowplugs.

3) No idea.

1. Could be accumulator, master cyl., as already suggested or hope you`ve checked fluid level? And brakes must be bleed as per the book not just like a simple system.
2. Hard to say from your description but as Datatek says a dodgy driver pack will make car go up `n` down with a mind of it`s own. Check-out "www.rswsolutions" for excellent overview of EAS and good videos of common faults/fixes.
3. As above answers, but what sort of smoke?? White smelling of unburnt diesel or blue? Any smoke white/blue/black when running? Do orange lights come on with ign? (Engine management & pre-heat).
4. Try to isolate source of noise. Wheels in air & spin wheels props etc. !! Note hand-brake doesn`t work with wheels off the ground !! So properly chock car and it`s B-heavy so only use good jacks & axle stands.
5. Dunno at all.
