Hello chaps, a bit of advice please.

I'm looking to get back in a 90 on the weekend after a few years out of the game. Now the truck im looking at is a 1990 90 with a 300tdi conversion. Now what should i expect average MPG wise? 25 MPG? Am i being optomistic?

Now also, what will be like on the mway? Is it likely to do 65 easy enough? It does have a 2" lift and Insa Turbo's.

Now, the reason i am getting it is far from the above. Its just the fact i will use it to get too and from work which is a 15 min motorway journey.

Thanks in Advance.

No 25-28 is normal

Yes 65 is just about comfortable (i run +2" Suspension and 33" BFG Muds)

What are you waiting for?

Thanks in Advance.

Where bouts are you in Bristol??

You going to use it as a weekend toy as well??
Some Good greenlanes around here and down towards Chew Magna.

Thanks buddy. As much as 28? Blimey. Does a 300tdi 90 feel like a 200? As ive only ever driven a 200 or a 2.5T or 2.5D.

See you up Dundry..;)

I doubt you will get 28 with insa turbos on.they are a 95% off road tyre and do make a difference to fuel consumption. 65 mph maybe if pump has been tweaked. Set up your looking at is for off roading really and although it will go on the road the tyres will be noisy.are you going off road with it

My 300tdi does 75 on the speedo, bit scary though, probably nearer to 65 than 75 but even at 56mph with the trucks the time difference in a journey that short would be lost behind a couple of cars at the top of the slip road so go for it

I have a 1990 90 with a 300tdi conversion. Had it just under two years. Fuel consumption on average is 28 mpg, It has a 2" lift and runs 265/75/16 Runway Enduro A/T tires. It will easily top 80mph on the sat nav. But It drinks fuel at over 65mph. Steady 55 is fine though. I tend to avoid motorways as it can become mind numbingly boring. :D

Insa turbo are a spanish tyre remoulder, they make all sorts of tread patterns from serious off road to standard road pattern.

My 300tdi 90 returns an average 33mpg running 235/85 Runway Enduro AT tyres, it will drop below 30mpg if I go over 65mph on the motorway. Flat out, I don't know, I've seen 85 on the speedo briefly it would do more I think but its far too noisy and scary at that sort of speed.

When I fitted the 235/85 tyres in place of the standard 205/80 tyres it effectively increased the overall gearing by 10% this:-
Made acceleration a bit poorer.
Made the speedo read accurately, according to my sat nav and the SID on our road. It used to be ambitious by 10%
Made cruising speeds quieter and more relaxed.
Improved fuel consumption slightly taking into account the gearing change.
