So first up - how my landy got an MOT this year is beyond me..... the steering which it seems has been ****ed since i bought it 5 years ago - finally completely faield on me the other week. so i switched in a good used column from greyhair (cheers - again) and it drives like a new car .....

anyway while i had the pedal box out changing the column i changed the servo and master cylinder on the brakes.....

now i have brakes that an F1 car would be proud of - kiss the windscreen kind of on the nose braking ability and no fading pedal or vac reduction - which was why i changed servo and M/C

my issue - theres very little freestroke in the pedal its literally braking heavily at the top of the stroke - maybe 10mm in - quite grabby braking - i "think" that some freestroke would give me more modulation and let me use the brakes more effectively.

Is this something thats adjustable ? - i guess its the servo to pedal area that has the adjustment ? can it be done with the servo in the car?

You can adjust the length of the actuator rod on the pedal to the master cylinder, but be careful that you don't do it too much!
Slacken of the locking nut and then try it half a turn at a time.

Depending on your arrangements, you may not need to do much dismantling. I find I can do this by unbolting the master cylinder from the servo and gently bending it out of the way using the flexibility of the metal pipes. Then if you weight the pedal down (I find the Disclok just the job) the rod sticks out just enough from the servo that you can get a grip on it. Unless you have ABS, in which case it's a bit different.

ah thats good news that brown , ill take it easy on the old adjustment but will get on it ..... im gonna put someone through the window if i leave it as is.... its an old fashioned 87 with disks up front and drums out back. no abs to be seen.. :D

- the whole brake systems been renewed at cost of $$$$$ so dont be too jealous

will do -

my brakes sailed through an mot 6 months ago with nary a comment. and to be fair they were still far far better than what the truck had for its previous mot... id changed all bar the servo and the master cylinder at this point.....

now we are at the stage where its ALL new.

Driving home has revealed it might be simpler than this.

Rear drums are nipped a bit tight and are scorchjng hot when i got home.
Not sure why! they were free when i checked them last.

Baws

I just popped to the shops , brakes were not rubbing.

As usual i think your on the money james.

Will get it adjusted , cant take it to work immorn anyway, no insured for business and need to drive a colleague from turkmenistan around tomorrow :( breadvan power.
