Just a thought I have see it when you get crappy connections on the ignition switch causing a high resistance and therefore not energizing the coil fully when you go to start her.
It looks like it working (ie. it sparks) when you turn over slowly but it fails when you try and start her.

have a look at contact on the ignition switch (Black 'n' crispy = bad)
Try and hot wire it by bypassing the ignition switch (Read the wiring chart first).

woo got it running now not perfect but still it lives once again. Had a look at the wire that goes from ignition to coil, pulled it of and straightened it out and tried it. Wen we tried to start it it turned over the fastest it has ever done and it started. Cheers for the help lads!!:D

hey guys just a quick update. Got the old strobbe gun on it today and the timing was way out , set it up and it running albetter but it still got that very slight odd beat about it but far better now . thanks

hi

dont know if this will help or indeed if it has one but have you checked the capacitor ?

i had trouble with one of them on "another vehicle" that was giving an intermitant spark .

and like to say "hi" to all as im a new series 3 owner

Just have a look and see if anyone has fitted a seperate ballast resistor on the feed wire from your ignition to the coil. If they have then that may well be at fault. If there isn't a ballast resistor then replace the wire rather than clean the old one up.

Regards WP.

hello again. i tried thet trick with the wire runnig it next to the old one. made no difference. We got a spark at the point but nothing after that allong the lne ie plugs etc. However we had an idea and tried the old rotor arm from the old dizzy and it fired but died straight after. With the new rotor it wont even start. THe New rotor is a longer one eBay.co.uk: SERIES LAND ROVER 2.25 LITRE ROTOR ARM (item 230069157785 end time 31-Dec-06 14:56:59 GMT) ,
and the old one is shorter one (abit to short) eBay.co.uk: Land Rover Rotor Arm, Late 2 Litre and early 2¼ (item 110055505527 end time 12-Jan-07 19:11:56 GMT)

Wat do u think?

I had a bad short circuit in my series 3 which meant it wouldn't start, turned out to be a dodgy connection from the ignition to the coil thingy, i added an extra wire from the ignition and ran it to the same place on the coil leaving the old wire in place too, it started then, don't know if that is any help to you though!
