A/C Compressor rattling

Hi this is my first post and probably the first of many ! I`m looking for advice re a rattling A/C Compressor on my `02` Disco 2 TD5 auto, I`m presuming it will be a worn bearing. Would it be ok /safe to put a different drive belt on missing out the A/C Compressor at least for the short term until I can get it repaired or replaced ?

yes, as there are modells without aircon with shorter belts from factory

do a search on here for aircon bearing fix, or a straight swap with a 2nd hand one, but then you would have to get it re gassed!

Thanks for the advice. Is discharging the old coolant a DIY job or as stated in the Haynes manual only for a pro ?

Forget Haynes cos it's full of boll*x, check RAVE and DIY without fear

Finally replaced the compressor with one I got off ebay and managed to do it without draining the coolant and removing the top hose although a little tight, also changed the drive belt as well while the fan was off. I took it to Halfords to have the Air Con system drained then took it back for a re-charge, they charged £49.99 which I didn`t think was too bad. Next week EGR removal and oil changes and greasing. I think this is turning into a hobby
