'98 4.6 Hse auto Gearbox problem. Help!

Hi,new to this site. Ive been reading it with great interest.
I have a problem with my 4.6 auto gearbox.
Basically it wont pull away in drive mode,it will only pull away in 1st gear.
Once it pulls away and ive built up enough speed through 2nd and 3rd it will drive in drive mode,but when you reduce your speed to a crawl it some how slips back into neutral, so you have to put it back into 1st and work your way through the gears again. Any ideas, thanks

dont want to say sound silly but have you checked the fluid level! from cold start engine, run gear selector through all the gears leaving it in each one for a second or so, from park to D1 then back again, then LEAVING it running dip the transmision and check level.

if you done this already then im sorry!!

Your first gear selector valve is stuck, try removing the plate underneath and cleaning away any debri.
