Hello from the US. I stumbled across this site while researching an issue with my Discovery and am hoping someone will know how to solve the issue, or at least point me in the right direction.

A few days ago, my disco stalled while we were driving around and wouldn't start up again. We couldn't figure out what the problem was, so called for a tow. At the repair shop, the mechanic suggested it had stalled due to low fuel. We put only a gallon in it and headed off to a gas station to fill her up. On the way, it stalled again and wouldn't start. So, after walking to the gas station and filling the tank up halfway, she was ok. No issues driving back to the gas station or back home. I haven't driven it since then. I'm too nervous it'll break down again.

Has this ever happened to any of you? Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much.

it sounds like the lift pump at fault or a small fracture of the fuel pipe so its pulling fuel and air. but lift pump sound favourite. good luck. Beni.

In the fuel tank there is a pick up pipe attached to the fuel guage sender unit, it sounds like this has come adrift which is why it worked with half a tank of fuel. Lift up the rear carpet and you will see the fuel lines coming out of a plastic moulding, it needs the outer ring undoing and the sender unit lifting out and hopefully all will be revealed.

Is your Disco a 3.9V8 ? If it is and you have a two button key fob it is likely that there is a poor connection in the smart spider immobilisation unit which is located ontop the heater box behind the radio. It can cut power to the fuel pump relay, ignition coil or the starter. But not usually all three.Often they will come back to life after cooling down for a short while, here in the UK we replace them with a spider link lead,AMR4956 - about £5 from LR.
It is an easy job for a tech to diagnose which circuit is at fault.
