I have two questions and I ask here first while I wait for my manuals
to get to me. I purchased the Classic about a month and a half go and
my check engine light just came on. I got underneath it and found
fluid leaking from the front driver's section of the engine
compartment. It is pinkish in color, a little dirty. Does anybody
have an idea what my problem is? I tried to see what the code was, but
I could not find it under the passenger side seat (just a lot of mints,
cigarettes and business cards from the previous onwers). Also while I
was on the passenger side I lifted up the carpet and the rubber/foam
mat was soaking wet. I tried to find the leak but couldn't - has
anybody else had this problem? I am wondering if it is the 2 screws
that hold the plastic front seat trim on - those were rusted pretty
bad. I just can't imagine that much water could come in from those two
holes. Any help would beneficial.

Thanks,

Jeff

Pink fluid = ATF perhaps? Shouldn't be at all dirty. From either autobox
(if fitted) or PAS??

Where exactly is it leaking from?

I haven't been able to completely tell yet - I only got under there and
saw from the bottom. It is all over though (the driver side front) and
as of yesterday was leaking pretty fast. By the time I was done
looking (about 20 minutes) I had a 10" diameter puddle. It might not
be dirty, but it isn't a clear pink hue. I am not completely familiar
with Range Rovers yet, so I am not sure what it was leaking off of. I
am waiting to get feedback on whether to purchase the Range Rover
Service Manual for $100+ or get the CDRom, and which CDRom people
recommend. Would either of those make my check engine light come on?
Like I stated I tried to find the code read out, but wasn't successful.
I will tear it apart once I have a manual and a little time.

Thanks -

Jeff

power steering pump/box/pipes or the pipes going to the oil transmission oil
cooler or the oil cooler itself. On RHD vehicles, those pipes are on the
passenger side, but of course if yours is LHD...

Had similar thoughts myself.

Before you shell out on a workshop manual use the owners handbook to
identify the PAS reservoir. Having found that follow the pipe to the
PAS pump. Then trace the pipes to and from the steering box.

On different tack, I've looked back at your original question:

Do you know what the foam on the passenger side was soaked with? If
it's water could it be the a/c condensate discharge pipe leaking? I'm
less familair with the 93 RR than you are as I have an 88 model, but in
that the a/c unit is in a tray in front of the front passenger and has a
drain hose that can leak.

I am going to hopefully have some time this weekend to get more in
depth in it. I think y'all are right about it being the PAS. As for
manuals, seperate question, which ones do people recommend. The Range
Rover Manual - extremely expensive, or the CDRom version. If you
recommend the CDRom, which one? I am assuming and in a weird way
looking forward to working on my rover, and would feel comfortable with
a manual. Don't get me wrong I don't want to shell out money, but just
like to learn about this intriguing vehicle.
