I'm going to be changing the rear shocks and springs on my classic and am also thinking of changing all the rear suspension "link" bushes at the same time but i'm wondering about the following

1 - The large central self leveling unit seems to have failed as its leaking,if i put tidy shocks/springs on will it have any effect on the vehicle if i do away with the unit?

2 - Do i go for standard bushes or poly bushes?.More to the point there seems to be some reasonably cheap polybush kits about from people like Britpart or Flo-flex but will they be any good.

Any advice or ideas please?

Don't bother with cheap poly bushes. Like 99.99999% of things that are cheap, they're dog****.

Just finished scrapping all my cheap polybushes. Absolute rubbish. Went back to an OE set of original rubber ones from Paddocks.

A set of standard bushes works out to be more expensive than the cheap polybush kit and thats what made me wonder about the quality, the only good thing about the polys is they won't need to pressed in i suppose.

It works out more expensive, not much, but it's worth it. If you're buying polys you need quality ones (£100+ i think) because when you're removing the cheap ones a year later cos they're ****e you'll be kicking yourself!

I'm sure you can lose the Boge strut as well. I'm pretty sure if it's visibly leaking it could be an MOT fail, especially if you get a jobsworth inspector!

Poly bushes are an expensive waste of time just fit OEM bushes and have done with it, after all they've probably been perfectly ok for the previous 10years and not needed replacing. Unlike Polybushes which will be lucky to last 18months.

But they look so nice in their funky colours! Nobody got anything good to say about poly bushes?Sounds like theyre a step backwards. Does the self levelling unit make much difference? Im not entirely sure on how its supposed to work. and ive got ARBs any way dont they do the same thing?

Your right there about the OEM bushes,I'll go for them.I can't see how removing the self leveling unit will have any effect on my rangie as its leaking badly so can't be very effective. Also i've seen the "A frame" and balljoint setup on defenders + discos but never the leveling unit.
Also looks like i was looking at somthing else as the OEM bush kit is cheaper than the poly kits
