evening all, just thought i'd put this out there and see what happens, so here goes;

as some of you may know, about 7 or 8 months ago i bought 92 vogue 3.9 v8 classic, i bought it in a bit of a state and have spent many an hour in the cold and the wet lovingly tending to her to get her back on the road after 5 years of being stood, but heres the sad part (violins at the ready guys and gals!) after ploughing a small fortune into her, i've come to realise that i can't afford to have a v8 as a toy. :confused2:
So... ive come to the conclusion that it might be an idea to get summat else, and was wondering if anyone would be up for swapping her for a similar aged diesel 90 (sorry hardcore rangie fanatics) that i can use for a daily commute.

Right.. i'll give you a brief overview of the old gal....

when i bought her, she had been stood for over 5 years and was in desperate need of some tlc, so the brakes firstly got a complete overhaul, and as im sure some of you more seasoned members will know that the abs systems can be a complete t**t, and rediculously expensive to fix, so that went straight in the bin and was replaced with servo and master cylinder from a 98 (i think) 300tdi disco, all done by a professional landy specialist. The rest of the system though was replaced with brand new parts, including calipers, disks, pads and a lot of the pipework where it was needed. **see pics**

recently the clutch decided it didn't want to work anymore, so, after analysis, she was treated to a shiny new slave cylinder and master cylinder (not in the pics), and now it works a treat.

during the quest to find abs parts, i found a very helpful chap in teeside who was breaking a 1990 vogue se, and kindly sold me the entire interior which might i say is immaculate! Its all been put in and consists of new lower dash, door cards, centre console, parcel shelf, rubber mats and grey electric leather seats. the original roof lining however was in suprisingly good nick!

i also got a (nearly) new upper tailgate, and at a guess i would say its not even a year old, and as far as i'm aware its a genuine LR part, which has no rust (and i mean NO rust!).

Mechanically, she's pretty good, she starts first time every time and doesn't smoke (that much ) and doesn't knock or bang and she drives a treat. The exhaust has seen better days to be fair, and could do with replacing (but it does look like a cool scene from star wars when you start her up in the cold! :D)
She had some new HT leads put on, nowt fancy, but they do the job! there is a bit of a power steering fluid leak, but its nothing major.
The only major mechanical problem is that the heater doesn't work, but as far as i'm aware is just a case of replacing a resistor under the scuttle panel, just ive never got round to it... wish i had, coz the heated screen doesn't work :( with regards to that, i haven't looked too deeply into it, but it could either be poor contacts on the screen, or that the element in the screen has burnt out.
Fuel gague doesn't work either, i've looked into this, and found that the gague is fine, and its the sender unit, (i've shorted the wires and the needle went to the top) but unfortunately the sender unit is built into the pump and they're a little bit on the costly side, so i'll stick with using my trip meter!!!
I do also have an original stereo, but never got round to fitting it, so i cant guarantee it works.

Right onto the bodywork... i'm not going to lie, she's not gunna win any concourse awards. To be honest you'd be lucky to find a straight panel on her, but it doesn't look too bad, there's no rust, except in the corners of the bonnet and the lower tailgate. Paintwork wise, she could look a lot better if you spent a weekend with lots of rubbing compound, a buffer, lots of tea and a bit of patience. If you take a look at the snaps, you can see where i had a bit of a go, but i had to give the buffer back. She's got a brand new Rebel solid steering guard and a pair of rally giant spots on the front, so she looks pretty cool.

Underneath, the chassis is rock solid, its never been welded and doesnt need it. I've been told by a few people that its one of the best that they've ever seen (its better than my mates 2000 disco 2!!!) the arches and sills are solid too, and i haven't found any patches when i've been snooping around when she was on the 4 poster ramp.

I think thats just about it, i'm hoping she can go to a loving home, that can give her the care and attention she deserves, but i'd need another motor immediately for work purposes, so send me a reply or pm if ur interested, heres some piccies to whet your appetite, i'll gladly take some more snaps for you if you need them.

Oh, and i've a trailer load of spares, including and ABS ECU, seats, door cards etc...

...huh, turns out my brief overview wasn't so brief.. lol!

Thanks for reading,
Jim

Hi Jim,

I'm afraid I can't help you with a swap, having just bought a '91 Vogue SE V8 myself! However, I am in need of a drivers seat electric seat switch as mine is faulty - you mentioned you have spares from the interior you removed, any chance you have a drivers side seat switch available??

Cheers!

Mike
