Hello All,
After much contemplation, clearing of space and checking lifting capabilities I am now at the stage of seriously considering a chisis change on "Big Red" my defender 90 TD5. I seem to be mired in a number of minor issues at the moment that are probably easily resolved with easier access to engine, fuel system etc that a strip down for a new chasis would enable.
However...
Some advice if I may once again be so bold.
1. I looking at a Richards Galvanised Chasis - they seem to be pretty well regarded. I will etch prime and topcoat. Any opinions? positive or otherwise?
2. There was a very good three month article in LRM with a TDi 300 chasis change which is probably not far off what I need to achieve - however I am by no means daft enough to think that a TD5 will be exactly the same. Does anybody know of a good guide anywhere else? Particularly in terms of engine bay disconnections (I am thinking it will probably be the same as for an engine change?)
3. I will be doing a full body lift using endless chain hoists strops etc. A good idea? I would like to avoid a full strip down of the body, but i am willing to be convinced otherwise.
In general any general advice will be gratefully received.
I will be keeping a diary of events and may use it as the subject of an online article.
In the mean time if you happen to be in the south hants area in a landy and a bearded bloke in a Ford Ka waves at you - please forgive me, it is a difficult habit to break even when not driving a Landy.
Regards
Quilkyn
