Hi All

Ignoring the obvious why?

Do ya'll know of anyone who has put forward facing seats in the back of a 90?

Is this nonsence?

I bought lock and fold seats from exmoor trim as I wanted to put my two young kids in the back in their car seats and these appear to be the only legal option.

The seats are heavy and expensive and I had some fun and games with trying to get them to fit - they need to be raised off the floor with a spacer otherwise the mechanism jams and you can't turn them round - as they are capable of facing sideways as well just not with the child seats fitted.

Also, you wouldn't want to be too tall because I'm only 5'6" and my head is brushing the headlining.

The kids, particularly my 2 year old son, love coming off-roading though. Having paid all that money for the seats allows me to go out with wife and two kids without being nagged that I'm going off roading on my own again... what price no nagging!

I'm going to go with the "lock and fold" seats from Exmoor Trim too. They are expensive - but what price your kids safety?

At the moment, only my oldest is interested in coming out in the Landy, so her booster seat goes in the front.

Ian.

Speaking from bitter experience, when you order, make sure you ask them to supply the longer bolts and spacers to ensure that the seats don't sit directly on the floor because as I said in earlier post the mechanisms jam if they are installed without the spacers. Also ask them to make sure that they are delivered on pallets rather than being wrapped in cardboard and packing tape because I had to send mine back for refinishing a couple of times as they were damaged in transit.

Holly ****!

Did you not consider buying another 90 for that price, and towing it behind?

That way the kids all get "to go in the front" and you can't hear them scrappin all the way:D Hey, you could put the wife in there too!

I agree it is truly a ridiculous amount of money for 2 seats but unfortunately you have no other legal / safe options for carrying children in car seats in the back of a 90.
For me it was a choice of paying the money to buy the seats of never being allowed to go off-roading.

You could argue (and I did with the wife) that it would be cheaper to take the wife and kids to pay and play site in another vehicle in convoy and then swap them into the off roader with their child seats strapped to less expensive (not approved/legal) forward facing seats using a ratchet strap or similar. However, that would not suffice for green-laning which of course necessitates that your vehicle be road legal and all the same rules apply re car seats, etc so there was not any other option, except maybe buy a LR110...

Fair enough. Is it the kiddie seats thats the issue? Mine 7ys and 9ys, so don't need the kiddie seats.

Are other, less expensive options, still 'safe' for bigger sprogs?

When I was looking Exmore Trim did not make the locking rear seats so for my 2 kids (aged 12 and 14) so I fitted a pair of forward facing rear seats again from Exmore Trim. I took out the four sideward’s facing seats from my 90 CSW and installed these on my own in one day. I had to get the tank dropped and the central seat belt fixings come through the floor but it’s never been a problem and Exmore supply a bracket to fix the 3 point inertia belts into the landy.

When the children a bit older I will take these out and refit my four inward facing rear seats and then sell these two on EBay. They are ideal for older children but as said not suitable for child seats. Incidentally I have informed my insurance company (NFU) and had no problem and it’s never been an issue at MOT time.
