Yeah, trying to get rid of any moisture, it isn't going to hurt anything.
Belts don't like mineral oils on them - it will cause them to perish. Use silicon spray.
WD40 is often used as a lubricant, it's made up mainly of kerosene with a little oil and only really works well as a light lubricant (locks, hinges) and driving moisture out of some things, but it's also a solvent by nature because of the high kero content. Be careful with this stuff.
