hi there . in a land rover 90 you can have rear bench seats without seatbelts from what i have read in a hardtop
but !! if you have a 90 pick up / truck cab can you still have seats in the back legally ?? as for example a soft top land rover you can with the hood down but can you in a pick up ??

thanks chris

Yes if they were original fit. I have an ex mod 90 with a canvass pick up roof and canvass tonneau. In the summer I have the seats fitted for alfresco passenger carrying. Seat belts are not required as they were never fitted.

so if i have a 90 pick up cab .. with back window fitted and just fit rear bench seats in the back it is ok ?? lol thanks chris

Nobody on this forum is going to pay your passengers insurance claim in the event of an accident so your insurance are the only people you should be asking, we can all tell you our opinion but they are the ones who will invalidate your passengers claims in the event of an accident, or drop u in it with the police if questioned...

give em a bell but above all else get their answer in writing... do not accept an answer over the phone..

Cheers Steve

Yes you can fit bench seats in a truckcab. You'll have to inform ya insurance about the extra seating. If ya carrying children they can't use the lapbelts or any other form of restraint. yu might wanna think about implications of firing them into orbit if you are involved in a collision.

How is it possible to tell if they were original fit?

Good question! I am just stating what my insurance company told me. Mine is shown as a 7 seater on the V5 so I guess it would be that and the factor it is declared as a 7 seater on the insurance that would govern it. The fact that most of the time it only has 3 seats in it is a moot point, it is insured as 7 seats.

In the summer I often put the seats in and roll the back window up and the passengers love it. The insurance are fully aware of this configuration.

i was only after some guidance not that i have seats in the back i was just wondering as some one mentioned it to me before :S so was only after a bit of guidance not a deff answer lol thanks

I would not like to use seats out side, There is strong belife and evedence that seat belts cause more harm for side sitting passengers so do the maths ;)

Ive been told I'll get my knackers removed if I put the kids on the side facing fold up seats in my 90 but a stranger driving them into town in sidewards facing seats is fine

I don't see a problem with no belts if it's in a 30mph limit, I wouldn't do it at faster speeds though.

There's no belts on the bus but that's ok , apparently

I have bought some forward facing seats but I'm not even sure I'm allowed to fit them

That's wimmin for yu..

what about the moron who hits you whilst doing 90 in a 30mph zone?? Why do so many people seem to only take their own driving into account????

If they're securely fitted and have 3point inertia reel seatbelts or securely fitted harnesses.. I can't see why you can't/shouldn't..

Something I told someone many moons ago who had a similar view......

you can run at best at about 10-12mph

So... run at a brick wall flat out without your arms out... (would do no good any way) and see what happens

blunt trauma at 10mph can easily kill... 30mph no problem??? RUBBISH!!!! and yes i have had an accident at well over that but its completely down to luck that i survived

Cheers Steve

My argument is they get on the school bus every day with no belts, so a stranger driving them is ok but I'm not allowed to in the 90

As a special treat they're even allowed to stand against the glass on the top deck for the full star wars effect when it snows

If somebody hits you at 90mph seat belts won't make any difference, everybody's going home in a box

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big believer in seatbelts, I wore them on every trip before it was law, it just seems odd that people worry so much about side facing seats and belts but get on a bus with side facing seats without even thinking about it hence my 30mph comment.

It's academic because even though my knackers are no use to me because I'm married I'm still kind of attached to them so the kids don't go in the Landy until the new seats and belts are in
