90 defender rebuild

Looks great, what a transformation! has the farmer seen it since he sold it to you?

cracking work mate. Did the seats pass a Mot inspection though just wondering i just wouldnt have thought they were safe like that. Nice way to give more leg room

Go for it , They are great fun and 60's ones are still around for sensible money .

He came buy the other day , He didnt believe me - until I pointed out the registration

Yes no problem - They are actually mounted with 4 high tensile steel bolts that are M10 and have 1 inch washers on the inside and 2 inch square washers under the tub .
Basically any impact would have to pull 2 x 2inch steel through the floor and then it would also have to cut through the sides of the tub as the bolts are mounted at 90 degrees to the other ones .

If you look at the original front seats they are only mounted using 4 M8 bolts so they are vastly stronger than that .

Add to that the fact that any weight thet is in the seat is going to be held in place by a seat belt - which is 3 point and again mounted better than the front ones and the passenger or seats are not going anywhere .

Very nice mate love the way it looks.

I havnt quite finished this , I still have a few little jobs I want to do and a few bedding in issues to sort out , but nothing major .I will keep plugging away at these jobs as I get time .

As mentioned before I have managed to get another 90 and am going to get into that soon , however I think I might do something with a bit more attitude .

As a result , If anyone fancies a new Landrover - I will listen to offers in the region of £4750 .

Thanks Puffin - Priced to move , I have over 150 hours in it, so that doesnt even cover my labour , let alone the truck and the paint .

It is a shame that you did not change the 2.5td engine.

I agree its a fair amount - However the paint and prep alone would cost 3000 +

I could put a 200 TDi in for the right offer

Not sure putting a 200tdi would be worth it!!

It would be a disco engine as a decent fender one is mega money and then pipes and stuff will need altering. To do a proper conversion costs a lot of money and price would have to feflect this.

You'll have to give me a pointer to where! Seem to be silly money on ebay!i have had a 68 and a 73 in the past both 1300's 68 was all good but the 73 was a rot box the front axle had been welded to the rotten frame head!

Thanks Mook - Its been a real good and enjoyable change to the old VW's I do every day .

Really enjoying driving it as well , we live in the country and its getting nice and dirty , I dont have to avoid the potholes or the water any more which is good .

Was thinking of doing something similar with the rear seats myself. How do you find the legroom for the kids as they will have to put their feet up on the arch??

Very nice and thorough job and a very decent price ( mine was £5,000 with a def 200tdi installed )... still cost me another £1200 on top of that as the gearbox etc was f***ked. The joys of owning a land Rover eh? You only get what you pay for.
