90 300tdi trans/gearbox

Just got a defender again old age crisis , but over 50 its so noisy transmission wise , Not sure if trans or gearbox , Can any help and tell me what will fit , and best to look for as replacements . If disco ones etc will fit without retro fitting / bodging . Even better if anyone near Macclesfield has such animals . Thanks gerry

you can fit a disco box but you need your defender box top and an ashcrofts adapter

Doesn't seem to make any difference which gear , its just when you push the revs up , So if in 5th 55mph max it starts getting noisy , 40-45 its totally fine , i pushed it to 70mph just to check if ratios had been messed with , but did so with ease , And it got no better or worse . I know its partly me getting used to a Defender box again , but its lets say a bit awkward at times shifting compared to my golf lol . Its handy to know if i need to i can use a disco box (use my top if its ok) + ashcrofts adapter . I will check them out . thanks for your help . .
