Greetings. Just spent the afternoon fitting a heater box taken from a crashed 2006 defender. I have to say, it's brilliant. The air coming out is like a hair dryer. You almost can't keep your hand over the vents! It's a pretty direct swap from the original box. The main differences are:
- the matrix pipes come out horizontally, not out and down at a right-angle. I reversed the rubber hoses, and they reach fairly well, although it's a bit of a stretch, but I just made sure I could feel the tubes inside were well past the jubilee clips before tightening them up
- The wiring is a little bit different. I just connected the two wires that go directly to the motor, ignoring the resistor pack, so I've just got it going at top speed
- I didn't have the bits on the vent hinges that the lever cables go in to, so I had to take the ones off the old box and weld them on.
Other than that, it fits the same holes on the bulkhead, and it was a good time to replace all the bits of foam that were disintegrating. Confident now that I've got air coming in to the cab that hasn't gone through the engine first!
