Just a game really. But with a total of 6k to buy and build a weekend warrior. What would you guys make? Bored of looking at soulless meat transportation and wish to think again of the unrealiable noisey cold wet missery bank killing pride and joy's we all love.

Don't worry fanny it's not a V8 so I don't need a slap.

They are ridiculously simple which is the big plus point for when they go wrong. You end up taking everything apart and copper greasing it all though.

How about a computer designed chassis with modifications, 3 axles, a big american v8 . maybe a series bulkhead but prob. not? And some wide vehicle stickers.
It would only take a couple of months ( weekends only) to build as I would have a deadline.

Or a ratty 80" with a TDI.

Just read it has to be a diesel. So I would chop and change V8 s and decide on the best engine in the world this week. This of course is the Detroit diesel .
These engines are well known to have no electronics unless they do, and these blocks have never had any problems cracking or giving big end /main bearing cap problems.
Ooh and its yet another non land rover item to discuss on a land rover biased forum.

American motors can be good fun, their just loud and thirsty,

With that money I'd go get an old 3-door D1 with all the gear on it for about £1500 off eBay, repair and improve it, then spend the rest on Diesel and EP90 :)

Actually that's pretty much my plan for later this year ..but with a much smaller budget! :D

6K would probably just about build a fairly reasonably speced tdi 90 and that's all the hardship and finding some nice used parts cheap. My trayback is standing me about 4-5K already and I don't even have winches yet.

You'd buy one far cheaper that was ready to go but I just like building my own stuff as I enjoy it and have the tools and everything anyway.

If I had a a bigger budget, I'd love to build a nice TD5 trayback or one with a cummins lump if I wasn't allowed to use petrol engines such as V8s like an LS, S62 or 1UZFE or 6 pots like 2JZ or RB engines

and they weigh close to 3000 pounds. need to find how heavy of springs to fit

Too much work. The most chassis work I'm considering is fitting a galv one lol.

That's the other option I's sitting with. Get a rotten 300TDI Disco replace the chassis with a galv one and make a 40" wheeled toy.

Yeah thought of Defender's. A series I would keep to look like a series so would really be a daily-green lane toy. Big balls Disco for real playing I think a big balls fander as you said will go over budget. I could blow the whole budget finding a fender lol.
