WOW What a under taking, nice dream. Them GM or FORD diesel's are to big size and weight and troque for the defenders. the land rover's drive train can not handle the power. The electric system, a monster computer control systems for everything. Why not build the GM with lift kit and tires and than kick butt in the mud pits

good luck

if you've got the conversion plate etc then its just as easy as sticking any engine in there.
just make sure you change your front springs for hd as its a heavy engine. gear box should be fine if its in good order, if you want to make sure then stick in the old rangie 4 speed as this takes it easy.
im guessing your using the non ecu engine in which case its as simple as a landy lump to wire in.
to be honest the biggest job was making 2 down pipes, and the rest of the exhaust i used turned out to be a bit restrictive, so ended up using tdi system i think?? grafted to the down pipes and y-piece i made? dont hold me to that as i cant actually remember :)
good luck with it fella

Thanks for your replies, thats the thing where could you get a conversion plate from and what clutch combi would it use, lucky to have the original exhaust and Y piece so will be able to fab something up, going in with lt85 gearbox, disco transfer box, and hd springs, not planning to break the transmission though but we will see
