I've been offered a cracking TD5, however it's a 5 seater.

You know the question, and I have searched!

Can the rear seat 6 and 7 be retro fitted "easily"?

Thanks

Gareth

I think there is an insurance issue around type approval ?? something to do with air springs needed on the 7 seater to get type approval.
I'm sure someone will be along soon to give you a more definitive answer

Short answer.. No. The only way to do it is to have it done to current standards. Seats must be of the approved type and correctly mounted. Seat belts must be fitted to "approved anchor points". You must have head restraints, not needed for second row, but required for third row because of the back window. Entry and exit points for third row passengers: Then you try and get it past an MOT. Then we go on to suspension and insurance modifications....

is the last post saying this is for a current 5 seater that is converted now would be hard to make it legal? even if it was converted like it would be leaving the factory 10 years ago? i.e no headrests in the 3rd row

how is this not ok if it was done to a factory spec albeit a 10 year old one?

I thought the 3rd row seats in the D2 had headrests, the D1 didnt but they are side facing anway.

ah you beat me with superior knowledge then, i assumed they didnt and you know what they say about assumption

You can do it. It just needs to be done to the correct spec to get it approved by DOT. I am sure any decent restoration company would take it on...Cost wise.. Labour.. seats .. upgrade suspension.. get DOT approval.. gotta be not cost effective. Better deal. Get the rear glass tinted. Throw a couple of bean bags in the back.

It is easy and fully possible to do it, everything just bolts in place.

You just have to make sure you get ALL the bits from a donor vehicle, IE top and bottome side trims, seats, seat belts etc . As far as the "type" approval goes, its an age old argument and don't mean **** tbh, ANY mod you do to take a vehicle away from its factory spec invalidates its type approval.

Land Rover did and do sell coil springs for 7 seaters.

mine was built as a 5 seater, but has 7 on the V5, see what yours says ?
