4x4 response

Well, I'm not going to argue the merits of volunteer work - it's something you either want to do or you don't. As a matter of fact my local 4x4R group is a charity. The way it works is that the police or other emergency services can call on the group co-ordinator when help is needed, and they will then mobilise a number of experienced, qualified, vetted, and insured 4x4 drivers to respond. It's not a matter of driving round on your own looking for stranded nurses, though I can see the attraction of that too.

This seems to be an area where I could help out, get to know some local 4x4 enthusiasts, and get some training in off-road and recovery techniques. For the record, business insurance is not necessary, it turns out - I'm already covered by my normal insurance. I'll let you know how it goes...

!st there is virtually no offroad situation that would involve 4x4 response.
2nd what qualifications do you think you need to taxi frontline staff from their homes to work.

And before you have a go I was in HumberYorks4x4Reponse. So I know exactly what is involved in been a member of a response group.

Was a member for a year, most of the pub meets involved some round trips of up to 70/80 miles. I couldn't justify the cost of fuel just to sit in a pub. The members I did meet were well up their own arses full of self importance. A few months after the Somerset levels flooded I was talking to a mate in the fire service who was in attendance, I asked if they had 4x4 response attend. Yes they did attend and were a bloody nuisance, they couldn't be told to feck off because they're used as a taxi service by the police during the winter

That'd be Wessex4x4 & yes they are up their own arses. when BBC tried to interview them at the time, their coordinator virtually told em to feck orf and leave him alone. Arrogant ignorant ####. Who missed a great opportunity for some Good PR.

I was thinking of joining the local one but my 90 only has 2 seats so won't be used as a Taxi and my job wouldn't allow me to go and help in working hours!
