Hello:)

After some help.

you guys with a Mazda SL lump with an auto in your cars can you do me a favour and send me a picture of your throttle cable/kickdown cable setup and positioning under the bonnet? I have just had an auto installed and cant for the life of me get it to change gear, it will however change if I do it manually.

gearbox is the ZF 4hp22 and a Mazda SL35TI.

any help would be mint

Hi Tom, I drive a RRC with sl35ti and ZF auto gearbox, but the kickdown cable is not connected, I want to make a bracket but don't have a good example.

I've attached a photo. It's basically just 90 degree brackets with holes drilled out or a slot added. Seems to work fine. My kickdown needs a bit more adjusting but it's ok for the time being.

Excuse the spring on the engine stop lever. Mines connected to a sticky Bowden cable I need to replace. The spring just making sure it engages properly as a temp fix.

Don't know whether the engine would make any difference but:
"Set up
If the vehicle is a Disco I or Range Rover Classic under no circumstances drive with the kickdown cable disconnected, as this will cause premature autobox failure."
https://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk/automatic-gearboxes/zf4hp22.html
Perhaps give them a ring & ask?

Tom and Ratae, thank you very much for the info and the picture! This will help me a lot. Yes I know its not oké for the autobox to drive with disconnected kickdown cable, I will fix it soon. There is a problem with the autobox, it will not go in lock-up, may be it is due to the kickdown cable? The atf is on the right level and it is clean. May be the torque convertor is on his way???

I have a similar problem. So if you do figure it out please let me know. Fyi my gearbox is brand new Ashcroft uprated with new medium sized torque converter. Less than 500 miles on it so far. I've got it past 60mph where I think it's in 4th but no sign of lockup or quieting down.

People love these engines with auto boxes so there must be a solution somewhere.
