4 wheel drive question

Not had a series before. While driving my new series 2a/3 without the transmission tunnel in place I've noticed the front prop turning when engaging 4 wheel drive but whilst inspecting the underside of the car with the wheels on the ground I can rotate the front prop by hand in either direction.

The Landy has free wheeling hubs on the front which are both locked although one won't unlock fully. I would have expected the prop to be solid with the wheels on the ground and I'm thinking it's not getting drive to the front! Does this sound about right or am I being a noob?

The free wheel hub needs to engage fully.
when it is if still thge same you have a broken front halfshaft but that is very rare.

You can take the free wheeling hub off and check it's operation, they are quite simple inside. Might just need a good clean

It might just be the rear wheel drive part of the transmission driving the front prop via friction/ fluid in the bearings.

Or you might have one FWH not fully disengaged.

The red lever operates a dog clutch to engage the front prop

Both FW Hubs appear to be locked, but I'm going to take them off today and see if they're damaged or not engaging when locked. I've not had the car long but suspect the previous owner has been messing about with the passenger side one as two of the nuts were about half way out. It also had a brand new front prop on it and when I asked him if there were any issues with the FWD he said no but that could have been BS.

while its in 4wd and handbrake on, lift one front wheel up and see if it spins, then repeat with the other side.
if a wheel spins, check if the front prop is turning

Managed to sort this. One of the hubs was gummed up with old grease and not engaging even though it was in the locked position. Cleaned, reassembled and all working now.

May replace then with normal flanges as they don't look in the best condition.

I always found it was a bit less noisy driving in 2wd with the hubs disengaged, I'd never take them off
