4.6hse help

ok very new to this,i have a 1998hse4.6
it has signs of the head gasket going BUT a water pump was fitted,so the temp stays as it should.
but there is condesation in the head or to me where you put the oil in.
the thing is i did 150miles in it and things have been fine since the water pump was fitted.i have noticed that there are two part to the caps to were you take off to fill with oil now the second or base one wont fit properly the screw thread wont for love nor money go in and i was wondering if this is were i was getting the condensation from

Exactly where is condensation and what makes you think HG has gone? Yes the oil filler tube is a pain to get screwed back in, took me days! Can't imagine that would lead to excessive condensation though. Like I said, RR forum post needed...

if the car has been idle for a while a very small amount of condensation is fine. get a sniff test done to see if you have the mix......

the h/g was suggested by a mech i know but it has been pressure tested and it came back fine

This is probably quite normal. All engines have a certain amount of blow by gas (combustion gas getting past the piston rings). This blow by gas contains water vapour (same as what can be seen coming out of the exhaust on a cold day). The blow by gas get up to the rocker covers and on a cold day, will condence on the inside of the rocker covers and oil filler cap. You will either see droplets of water or a mayanaise if it mixes with the oil. It's worse if you only do short journies. Check again on a warmer day after a longer run. Usually when the engine is fully warm, the blow by gases are drawn into the inlet manifold via the breather system and won't condence on the hot rocker cover or filler cap.
