Hi All,

I'm new to the site so hello to everyone :)

We recently purchased a 1996 4.6 P38 and it has started to emit white smoke from the exhaust. When we bought it the guy told us it had had a new rad, new starter, cylinder heads skimmed and new gaskets etc, etc.

Well tried to start it one morning and just a cluncking sound, so when we took off the starter id had actually snapped the casing off the end! It was indeed a brand new starter so we put on another (brand new) started OK. Next day same has happened again loud cluncking no starting. So I took out the plugs and one was dripping water so there is obviously water getting in somewhere. I can't get it started and I'm not buying more starter motors till I know what to do next!

Could they guy who sold it us have lied to us - most probably!

But if I replace the head gasket and the bolts (as I read these should be changed too). What are the other things I should check for and change?
I have repaired a number of cars over the years but no engines as big as this.

Apart from this problem car is in excellent condition inside and out so I'd like to get it running again.

Any suggestions gratefully received!!!
