4.6 vibration at 3000 rpm

Hi Everyone,
It's been a long time since been on, but until now I've had no problems at all.
Just a quick background to my problem;
A couple of weeks ago I joined the motorway and had to speed up to join the lane, as I sped up the gearbox kicked down a gear and then I heard and felt a vibration throughout the vehicle.
So after a visit to the garage we agreed that the rear diff was noisey and also a rear wheel bearing was bad as well.
I have had the diff and hub replaced but still seem to have this vibration and noise when driving.
The vibration and noise seems to be at 2800 to 3200 rpm and now I have discovered it happens when stopped and in neutral when revved to 3000rpm.
I'm now not 100% sure what it is but is it possible it could be the flywheel and flange plate or does anyone have any other ideas what it might be? I don't fancy dropping the gearbox only to find it's not the problem :suspicious:

The car is a P38 2002 4.6 (thor engine) Vogue.

Could be flex plate, might be able to see something with the plate at the bottom removed and a good torch.

I bit the bullet and ordered a replacement flywheel and flex plate, will update thread once fitted and confirm whether it's cured the problem or not.

Does the Thor have a dampered crankshaft pulley like the diesel? If it does then check its condition, when my mates diesel pulley started to deteriorate, it was undriveable due to vibration.

nah it was undrivaeable because it was a diesel

That's a bit rash, flywheel will not be needed IMO. Are you sure the flex plate is cracked?

Not sure if the flex plate is cracked but thought if I was dropping the gearbox to check it I might as well have one to hand in case it is the problem, it didn't cost that much, I only got a used one
Still not looked at it yet, I have to many appointments at the hospital at the moment

Datatek you were right! It wasn't even the gearbox that was giving the vibration...... It was a very badly worn water pump
New pump fitted and is good now.... Anyone looking for a flywheel and torque converter

Don't apply for a job in a garage on reception diagnostics any time soon. You will bankrupt them.
