4.4 V8 Temp gauge off the red help!

I have just changed the water pump on my 4.4 v8 2002 range rover and now the temp gauge goes straight off the red even when cold any ideas guys

Sounds like an air lock, check for cold spots along the cooling system pipes and tempreture difference across the radiator top and bottom.

Even when i disconnect the sensor it still stays the same off the gauge?

guage needs a slap??? try tapping it???

Does it do all of this before you've started the engine ?
