Hi Folks,

Tried a search but nothing really came up. I have a 4.2 short block and a 4.6 fully dressed engine. Can I swap all the serp components over to the 4.2 i.e. 4.6 cam, cover, pulleys etc.

Shane

Not totally sure of all the details but yes I believe so.
You may have to use the sump and the front cover.
Obviously there's no distributor.
If you use the heads, you'll need to use composite gaskets to keep the short engine design compression 9.35?, or if you use steel gaskets it will raise it to about 10:1 which is what mine runs at. But I have the opposite, 4.6 with non serp and efi
There may be some machining to do with the bottom pulley.

Done a big of digging and found a post on here about the V8's. 3.5 and 3.9 are the same family all the rest are the other family. Think I'm just gonna go ahead and put it together and see what happens.

Well yes they are I suppose. But the differences are things like crossbolted crank mains caps and redesigned head fixing (which are interchangeable), cam retainer which can be omitted. But what are you going to do with ignition and fuelling?

3.5 and 3.9 and 4.2 are the same family ,4.0 and 4.6 are a further development

Will also use the 4.6 manifold and fuel rail, then megasquirt it.
