4.0 v8 1996 idle drops and stalls when put into gear

Hi What could possibly cause my idle to suddenly drop and stall each time i try and put it into gear hot or cold?:der:

If it's an auto, check your gearbox fluid. It could be running too lean as well (at tickover/ low revs). It could also have an-anti stall device (this is from years ago so prob isn't relevant) that automatically richens the mix when going into gear that's not doing it.

Clean the idle control valve.

Hi all, it is an auto, so will check fluid level... this stalling lark progressed over about a week gradually getting worse, I has a Mr RAC man come out and he checked codes and the only fault codes were from prev mechanic taking off lead to temp sensor as it is cracked.
Mr RAC too idle control out and cleaned and said it might be faulty so I have since replaced it, it starts after about 3 -4 attempts of not holding revs and sounds quite rough for a couple of minutes then it sounds ok, but when I put it into gear and excelerate its revs drop before picking up, so when i come to any junction it stalls......:frusty:
Have i got to re set idle control? I just dont know where to look next espeacially after all the garages around including a landrover garage say we wont do anythin untill they put it on there computer and charge me £85 + vat each time just so they can scratch there head going fffffff could be this could be that ( sorry to any good mechanics, because im a girly i have been stung and told allsorts in the past) :cheer2:
