hi everyone i`ve just bought a p reg 1997 p38 for what i consider to be a very low price :D , it has done a very high milage @ 178.000 , but drive`s like a dream , everthing works as it should , and all the electrics seem to do what they should , it does`nt smoke , or run hot so up to now i`am quite pleased with it , however if any of you knowledgable guys out there could throw a couple of suggestions my way it would be very helpfull .
1 the heater works fine but, i can`t get the damned thing to demist  it does`nt help by the fact that the car has just been valeted and all the carpets are still a little damp .
2 i only got one key/fob/control thingy when i bought the car is it possible to obtain another without actually having to remortgage the house  :) .
if any of you guys can help me here it would be of great help to me thanks
rick.

In answer to question 1, when you say you cant get it to demist do you mean you press one of the buttons to direct the airflow to the screen and it doesnt work?? Or are you pressing the demist PROG button?? Either way have you got a handbook symbol up in the bottom right of the heater display??

In answer to question 2, the only way to get a new remote control key fob is via the dealer. The key is ordered for you by them and its programmed at the factory to your lockset via your VIN number. Look on the back of your current key and it should say (if the label hasnt rubbed off) either KEY1 or KEY2. You cant have two of the same key so if you have KEY1 get a KEY2 and vice versa. I got one not so long ago and it cost meeeee <looks> £139 which to be honest, I dont think is that bad, especially if it saves me when im standing in the pouring rain having lost the first one. Just dont get stung by LR when the key arrives. They tried to tell me the key needed tuning to the car which they would be happy to do. Only problem was they were going to charge me something like £60 to do it which is a load of crap. To sync it to the car for me all I had to do was unlock the car manually (after locking it with the other key) with the new key and then put it in the ignition (all the doors then subsequently unlocked) and start the car, key was all synched and ready to go.

Let us know how you get on.

hi wills unfortunatly the car came without a handbook, but basically i`ve tried all sorts of combinations with no luck.
i did however notice that when i pressed the demist prog button the little handbook symbol came up ?????????????
( i`ve left all the windows down today to try and get rid of some of the damp lol )

Hi
With regard to your demist problem you should have it checked out by someone with a diagnostic system ( I have Rovacom but you are a bit too far away)it is prob the flap motor. Have a look at www.remotes4cars.co.uk they may be able to help with your key problem.
Hope you get it all fixed.
Regards
Mik

thanks for the info mik , not bad price`s either , with regard to the heater / demister control does the handbook symbol mean there is a system fault ?
rick.

Hi yes it does. If you run it on say Rovacom you will be able to read the fault code and also force all the values to check what everything is doing.

Mik

just a quick update , took the car to my pal who very kindly stuck it on the l/rover diagnostics laptop did a complete system check of the vehicle it all came back clear (no faults) apart from the hvac system which shows no aircon ( requires a re gas ) or maybe an evaporator , but i`ll soon find out when i take it in , thanks all for your help , i`ll post the results when i find out .

I have a few (maybe 10) flick type RR keys lying about. Can they be programmed to the car by any of the guru's on here??

The keys have been cut - can they be replaced??

Im not a range rover customer, so these are useless to me.
