Hi All,
Wonder if anyone can help. Does anyone know the difference between the 4.0 and 2.5 auto boxes? I know the Bellhousing and Torque Converter are different but is there anything else? Just fitted a 4.0 box to the Diesel, and the ATF is running out of it. Is the front shaft oil seal the same on all ZFs? The seal was fine on the box before fitting and the torque never moved so don't think its damaged. The other thing im thinking now is the Torque Converer is leaking. Where would you pick up a diesel torque converter?

Does anyone know the best place to buy Torque Convertors in the UK? Are they just as easily obtained as a Manual Clutch Kit?
How common is it for a Convertor to leak?

i converted my 4.6 to a 2.5 d and the boxes were different

The 4.6 has a ZF HP24 whereas the 2.5 and 4.0s have ZF HP22s. The 24 is actually a stronger box, and i have fitted one to one of my 4.0 Range Rovers, without too much hassles, (Different adapter plates, and shortened bolts) but not to a diesel yet, though it might be possible again by changing Bellhousings, adapter plates etc, but don't quote me on it..

Anyway an update on the hassle i was having, it seems to be sorted now. Took everything apart again yesterday to find that part of the inside of the original pump from the faulty box was still attached to the torque convertor . Lucky it didnt smash the pump on the replacement box! Suppose you have to learn from mistakes?

Anyway, all back together again, no leaks, have drive and too be honest can't notice much difference in ratios.
