320 miles on a full tank!? 1999 Deisel TD5 defender. Thats not good.

How many miles ish, on average should I get? It must be more than 320 per tank. What do you guys get? The guy I got it from, said he put a transfer box from a 300tdi Discovery on it. Is that why? Also, the speedo reads 30 mph when I am actually doing 50 mph (so the sat nav says) Thanks for any input and advise in advance.

That's about what I get too (99 td5 110) from a full tank, 75 liters.
I never let her get below 1/4 tank though its easy to get a td5 air locked.

Sorry I just added that up again and I get more like 450 miles from a full tank, so yeah yours is a bit heavy juice. What size tank has a 90 got though ?

Yes and a disco's tank is far bigger and has better gearing than a fender……….

Td5s worse on fuel than a 300tdi, my mates td5 averages 18mpg, and i use to average 15mpg on my 3.5 v8 disco

Disco is 100 litres fenders About 70?

Can only fit 50 litres in my 90 tank

My 300Tdi 110 averages 25 or 26mpg. which is rougly what LR reckon it should be doing. 19mpg at 70mph is LR's stated figure..

Dunno I can get 19g into my disco tank, know the one in the series is the same as an old fender one and its tiny compared, the one in the 109 is probably about a TD5 size as its in the rear chassis rails and even thats small too

Hmm, Ok, I only pay 90p a liter out here in Germany anyway. Tax free fuel. I will just keep on truckin! Thanks for the comments people...

I've worked out the average for my Td5 90 over the last 4500 miles, works out to be 27.2 mpg - on std gearing, but I have had a mild tune to help the mid-range etc.
It normally takes about £70 to fill up from being in the red, so about 50 Litres, plus whats left 'in the red' so I guess the tank to be about 55 Litres.
So... if you use 50 litres (1 Litre = 0.219969 gallons) then it should do about 299 miles, so your not far wrong

my 300tdi 110 csw gets 26ish round town, 30ish on a 60mph motorway run towing the caravan, or not makes no difference.
about 320 per tank, poss more, not had the nerve to go further down the guage yet, it aint what you call linear.

I drive a 200tdi 110 CSW and I average 26mpg. I've always thought the td5 was roughly the same. Chuck a bit of veg oil in and I save on the penny's too. Can't do that with your fancy td5

Oooo your just showing off... I wish I had a fuel light. I think it must have been an optional extra.
