Anyone have any experience putting a 300tdi T box in a d2 v8. Only because mine need replacing and I have a spare 300 tdi box

Think both lt230, Iirc d2 was the Q version but essentially the same thing?

dont the d2 have a 'plain' transfer box - without difflock?

friend of mine keeps talking of fitting a d1 t/box in his td5 d2 to have the difflock....

Rich.
Some D2'S come with the DL, especially the late ones, some come with the bits in the TB but no cable to operate it & some didn't have any of the DL bits inside the TB but the bits can be retro fitted. Ashcrofts do all the bits needed so you don't have to fit a D1 TB if you don't want to.

I believe

1998-2002 have diff lock but no stick to engage them (this is what mine has) so you have to get under with a spanner to turn it on

2003 doesn’t have a cdl at all

and 2004 has the full system similar to the D1s

someone please correct me if I’m wrong

As a general guide yes but my 03 had diff lock and no linkage

The real problem is that the D1 TB will be missing the hi/low switch that tells the ECU whether it’s in high or low range as to switch to the proper fuel map. This is important as it changes a whole load of things from fuelling to throttle response and if you select low without the input to the ECU there will be loss of power and high EGT on a steep hill or any other oddities

Diff lock was always always on the option list, depending on the spec level of course but with the 2003 and 2004 model year ES model is fitted as standard.

You could take the nose section off the old box to retain the hi lo switch, but youd have to use the shim from the other nose to retain bearing clearance.
