300tdi to V8???

Hi

I have a 300tdi auto Mk1 Disco. I want to fit a 3.9 EFI V8 with a manual box. Is there any major problems with doing this? I will most likely buy a cheap v8 Disco so I have all the pipes and bits. But I am worried about wiring the ECU to my current car.

If any one can give me some advice or piont me in the right direction, I would be most greatful. Also if you think I am mad and should find a new project please let me know

I know where your comin from by wanting to put a different engine in your motor, i had a 1993 BMW 325i coupe individual (limited edition) a very special car in my eyes and i spent loads on it and wanted to replace its 220K miles 2.5 engine with an M3 one with less miles, after extensive research it turned out it would have been better to have just sold it and bought an M3, same story with my old 1.6 VW Golf which i wanted to drop in a GTI engine.

Its a lot of hassle, you have to replace loads of bits you didnt even consider, either do it youself or pay someone a lot of money to do it and then get insured on it, probably more expensive than just insuring a standard V8 because insurance companies are a%&$holes, probably inform the DVLA to put it on your logbook as a V8 etc etc, in my opinion just buy a V8 its quicker cheaper easier and less hassle.

The Insurance and DVLA wont be a problem. I put a 2.0l Mondoe engine in a fiesta xR2i. I just told the DVLA and sent my logbook in and they change it. It didnt even cost me anything I am insured with Adrain Flux and they ae very good with modified cars. They only charge me £25 when I change the engine in the Fiesta.

I was hoping that if I got an old v8 disco I would have every thing I need. Do you think I am missing something?

I did concider just moving all my mods from current Disco to a V8 one, but I have done some much to it, it seems like less work to drop a v8 in.

Do you know if there is any issues with change a auto to a manaul? I am a bit worryed about the peddels

The 300dti nevery seems to have enough power and I am only getting 18mpg because its an auto and I have 33" tyres, pluss all the other mods. So I though I have rubbish mpg I may as have rubbish mpg and an engine I want

If ya want a v8 buy a V8 they're cheap enuff if you want a knackered 1

mike i can see where you coming from but surely with your mods etc a tdi you say is doing 18 mpg surly a loaded up v8 will do like 8mpg would sound ace though

I agree with gcoo you wont get 18mpg out a v8 disco i get around 22mpg equivellent with me foot down on the m'way on gas

I thought you get less mpg with gas, but it was cheaper. So would I get more with petrol?

I did say 'equivellent' official figures for a v8 disco i fink is summat like 12/16 mpg

Ar I see, thats with the cost of gas factored in.
