its a tee piece.
allows air from rad and stat housing to vent to header tank. aids bleeding.
common to check if blocked (and the pipes) if havin trouble getting air out of system.
 
yep that'll do it....cracked the lot eh?
did your mech' give any reason why or how this happened....wouldnt want another one to go the same way
 
Not really given a reason by the machine shop but the cracks are now more evdient. Probably just excessive tempratures.

I have fitted the new head today after building it up along with a new Elring gasket.

I will get the rest of it done tomorrow and fire her up, hopefully all will be well!
 
All finished today and all seems well.

Taken it out for a good run, well 5 miles or so, and no overheat, red hot heaters and no water leaking anywhere!
