Hi,

I have a discovery 300tdi that I have become a little concerned about. Firstly its just had a brand new mot at a quality testing station without any problems.

I have a random and quite rare (once every week/fortnight) problem when I am going round a sharpish left hand bend at a 'T' junction at slow speed, it feels like the left hand wheel looses traction (like on ice or a patch of oil) resulting in a slight tug on the steering wheel.

I have never had the problem with right hand turns. Also I cant replicate the problem, even at the same junction so it only goes wrong when it feels like it

The car also occasionaly wanders slightly to the right for a split second as if there is a loss of steering control. As Im a new 4x4 owner I originally thought this was how 4x4's might feel to drive so ignored this part of the problem but now im thinking otherwise.

I assume that this could be a random failure with the poweer steering unit as it wasnt picked up on the MOT but dont at the moment feel like taking it to a garage who will charge me a fortune for labour and not find anything wrong or just replace the steering box/pump etc without the need to do so.

If anyone knows what this might be I would welcome your opinion

Thanks
Pete

What tyres are you running, possibly a silly question I know but I had a similar problem after fitting MTs to mine.

Turned out I had to adjust the lock stop slightly as the bigger tread was just catching the arm on full lock left.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply, I bought a brand new set of goodrych AT tyres about 3 months ago and have been very, very pleased with them. They are also the correct size for the disco so i dont think the tyres are the problem.

Regards
Pete
