Hi folks, need a lot of help and advice, I have a 110 that's sat for a couple of years, chassis not bad, body good, doors need fettling. I'm getting her up to MOT standard with a view to sticking a 300tdi and auto box in her (I have a busted knee and can't clutch well).

I want to work out what I need to do this, can anyone help? I can't find much in the way of links either, maybe I'm not too good at looking!

I need a Disco 1 auto, not too many in Northern Ireland that I can see....

Later disco 1 autos are edc and need ecu ect to run, the change happened in 1996 power went from 111bhp to 120bhp, but doesnt feel like it!
You can fit std bosch ve inj pump in place of the ecu one so dont discount a late auto if you come across one.

whilst the above is correct, sort of, and I know I am splitting hairs, (sorry), but the EDC ( read pile of carp ) does not have any connection to the AT. I know you didn't say this, :) just stating it for the avoidance of doubt!

The other problem with EDC is that parts, specifically ERR3337, number four injector with needle lift sensor are NLS = so, at the very least the EDC is scrap, potentially the vehicle itself is scrap as the MIL will be on, which is an MOT fail.

SO; an MOT failure EDC D1 ( which is an auto, it was not fitted to the MT ), could be a good buy for your conversion, providing its cheap, and also assuming you can source a standard pump ( and the injectors, (different pressures), though IIRC, these are only about £20 ish each, new ). It is a lot of work, but IMHO worth it. I don't do manuals either.

In terms of power, a full width intercooler, and the standard VE pump set up properly should give you around 145 hp, and this most definitely does feel like it. The economy you can achieve with careful driving ( I.E. drive like an old fart ) is impressive too. But, I am an old fart, so suits me sir:p

My own D1 auto had EDC, had as in past tense.. more noise than progress if you ask me, and you didn't I know, but !!:D

Great, thanks for the heads-up, so EDC Disco engine with new injectors, still mated to its auto box will go in as long as a new engine mount is made for the 300.
New oil cooler, anything else?

The tdi edc auto when chipped with large cooler really shifts, would eat my replacement td5 manual for breakfast.
You can run the edc injectors with the std non edc pump.

Whilst I agree that this is possible, I was advised by a well known specialist in Manchester that the increased back pressure on the pump will likely make it throw in the towel. I have absolutely no idea if this is a fact or not - but they had no axe to grind - they had nothing to sell me ( I was chasing the rocking horse manure injector ).

That's interesting, anyone else come across the back pressure issue? I hadn't thought there would be a difference in engine specs that would cause the back pressure.
Something to think about.

Cant argue with that as Ive never heard/thought about it before....
The 300tdi ive just fitted to my rangie was an edc auto but has a normal pump fitted.....definatly has the edc no 4 injector as the wire is still attached so Id assume they are all edc. Runs fine, a bit crackly but I have the pump timing advance up a bit.

if the sensor is ok ( coil resistance should be about 95 ohms ), I bet you could sell that for enough to buy a set of new injectors - just a thought !!
When I bought the disco (unseen) I did think id sell the injector when I converted it to normal pump but found out it was converted in the past.....probably because of no4 injector :) Maybe i'll check it and see :)
