Hi there to all you lovely Landy folk, may I take this opportunity in wishing you all a Happy New Year!!!!!

Okay back to Bertie (my Landy) went to drive him today and couldn't get him into reverse. Was able to select gears 1,2,3 & 5 but not 4th or reverse? Any ideas? (Please remember I'm still a newbie)

Looking forward to hearing from all of you wise ones out there ;)

:scratching_chin:

in what way ,stick wouldnt move into those gears or did but nothing happened, does stick spring back to 3rd/4th alignment

Hi there, sorry for not being more precise, yeah the gear stick wouldn't move into the 4th gear and reverse position (as though those positions don't exist) weird or what. In hindsight the gear stick hasn't always 'found' reverse straight away, ie a couple of times when I think I've put him in reverse nothing's happened and I've had to re-position it.

Also if it helps, before today's incident my reversing lights would only stay on if I kept the gear stick pulled into position, if I released my grip then the lights would go out. I've placed the reversing light switch and bulbs but to no avail, and as it isn't a requirement for the MOT I hadn't pursued it further for now etc

Thanks for any help in advance :)

id remove consol and rubber gaiter ,then tin cover and check bias plate ,should have a tab poking up between the springs at rear of lever ,if thats ok remove whole top (4 bolts and linkage )it would be worth fitting new reverse swith whilst there its on lhs top rear of box

Hi there matey, you were right!!!! The little 'tab' that should have been on the bias plate, through 16 years of wear and tear had finally gone, all fixed now thanks to a friend and his trusty mig welder :D
Once again a big thank you to you for taking the time to read my post and taking the time to leave me an informative reply - much appreciated!!! Cheers :D
