Howdy all, I’ve come across yet another problemo whilst changing my 300tdi headgasket, the head has 2 cracks leading from glow plug 2 and 3 holes. Then there’s a small gouge on the head slightly above valve number 8. The question is... do I carry on with a pressure test and skim costing just shy of £100 or go for a complete new head for £340???

Many thanks for you’re input!!

no point in pressure testing you know its cracked, gouge makes no difference unless it crosses fire ring area
crack doesnt most likely reach a water way yet but it will eventually,if i was keeping the vehicle long term id fit a new head

Thanks again James, I will be keeping the car for a long time yet. One last thing, the water path holes in the left hand side (driver side) all seem to be slightly corroded and indented.. anything to worry about? I’ve put a picture attached below.

Cheers

no issues as long as they come inside the sealing ring on the gasket
