Oh don't forget to get Heavy Duty Jubilee clips. ( form the same place ) Far better than standard ones.

Ok mate.thanks for your help.i will sort it on my next day off and let you know how i go.do you know anything about the knocking when engine is cold as ive never really got to the bottom of it.its also running a bit lumpy when i first start it and now sometimes when its warm it ticks over ok sometimes at 750 rpm then other times around 500 rpm and thats when it feels lumpy runs fine apart from that lol

Yea If it's wet then its f@@ked. porous. I went to my local trading estate. Found a place that sells hydraulics fitments and piping. Asked for a meter of oil pipe took the disco one in to get the bore. cost £6 even matches the color of my disco. lol Not same shape but far better product. You will find it doesn't fit round the engine the same nice and neat, but in the end it's a far better jobby. For little money. Job done. Look in your local directory. For hydraulics.
When you do a Job for a few Quid. Where it would have cost a fortune at a garage. Thats when the satisfaction of owning a Landrover comes in.
thanks john,
something cheap n simple and the oil leak is gone, pipe n clips all in cost me £4.50
sweet deal cracking job and sound advice from you mate.
thanks
richard

some times you need to re-do the valve clearances because if you have put new bits in then it will take a bit of running to seat. so i would check valve clearances again.
