Hello All,
In a previous post I managed to sort out the front timing cover bearing, Now, can I ask for your educated thoughts and ideas on how to resolve the next problem .
My 300TDI is a victim of a dodgy Paddocks Head Gasket (also previously reported in a post on this forum). I have the replacement cylinder head ready to install but #3 cylinder bore has some scuffing on the non thrust (front and rear) areas of the cylinder bore. I have removed the Piston and Conrod to ease inspection the bore. Apart from the mild scuffing the remaining bore area still shows evidence of the hone marks(cross hatching) and little ridge wear at the top of the bore. The piston itself is OK even though it has been in use for 320,000Kms. I have an idea that if I lightly hone the cylinder bore and fit new rings, this should tide the engine over until it finally dies. I will be keeping the disco for awhile yet.
I have attached photos of the problem. Photo 1 shows the scuffing towards the back of the engine and photo 2 shows the scuffing to the front of the engine.
Thoughts and ideas please fellows.
Thanks in advance,
Regards
John W.
