After some help please;

I'm a qualified mechanic so can do the job no problem but need a hand in a different way;

I've bought myself a 1998 disco 1 which I'll be fetching in the next few days hopefuly, the head gasket's blowing (like a leaky exhaust) and I intend to fix it before I come home. Now starts the trouble, I don't know if it's ever been done before or if the head's been skimmed so I'll probably get the middle gasket of the three (1.4mm iirc). Anyone see any problems with that? Will probably re-do fairly soon after I get home but I'm worried about the leak burning a groove in the head / block.

Next up, would someone please post a list of tools needed to change the head gasket, I'm guessing it'll be pretty self explainetry but might just help me not to forget anything.

Also, can someone post the tightening torques / sequence for the head bolts please? As I've not got a manual as yet.

Very good of you, it's colchester unfortunately. As long as it's not already burnt the surfaces I'm not to worried about getting it skimmed as yet, The thought behind changing the gasket is simply to prevent damage on the way home (130miles), I'll sort it properly when I get it home - head gaskets aren't very expensive.

simply, I can't really aford to hire a trailer AND buy a head gasket at the moment, I've spent a bit more than I budgeted for buying the car.

i.e. to hire a trailer £30 + £10 for the gasket = £40

For to gaskets and a little graft £20

YES money's really that tight.
