This info is Wrong.It only applies to petrol engines.You can take the cat out of a 300 tdi and still pass MOT.Mine didi asked the guy who does my mot who is a landy nut himself if he would pass it without the cat fitted and he said no, unless it came out of the factory without a cat fitted as standard it should not pass an mot

Hi, just thought I would share my observations;
I have removed the Catalytic converter from my 300Tdi, they made some from the factory without, and a front pipe is available without the Cat in it, I think this will fit to the standard system. Didnt know this at the time, so I cut mine out and welded in a piece of straight pipe. Seems to help with power in the lower revs.
At a later date I made a mid box replacment straight through pipe, with this fitted the noise inside and out was horrendous, I soon replaced the mid box.
I would tend to be a little cautious about replacing the mid box with a straight pipe. With the Cat out it has a little more growl without being intrusive. Not sure exactly on the technicalities of removing the Cat on a diesel, but mine still passes the MOT without it fitted.
Hope thats of some help for you.

Yeah mine passed an MOT without the cat on aswell its not a legal requirement on diesels. And i have a middle box replacement pipe and back box on its way from paddock for £41!
on a 300tdi it is more a particulate filter than a true cat.
