Sadly work has been keeping me busy this week so I haven't been able to do anymore work on the engine. The current plan is to finish stripping the engine this weekend, then order the parts that I need and finally get the engine block booked in for a rebore.

I'm also shopping around to see if I can save some money by having the turbo and injectors refurbished, but it's starting to look like buying new will be the only reliable option.
 
A quick update - I've spoken to FJ Payne this morning and they've said that they can supply the pistons when the carry out the rebore, so that should hopefully save some time and money. I'm waiting for a quote for the work but I feel better in the knowledge that I won't have to worry about buying the right sized pistons before sending the engine over for the rebore.

Sunday should see the rest of the strip down completed so it's then just a case of posting everything off and waiting for parts to arrive.
 
Progress at last! :D

Between work and family life, this is turning into the slowest ever engine rebuild, but I've made some good progress this weekend and finally have a fully stripped engine block ready for a reface, rebore and hone.

Nothing particularly interesting to see at this stage, but here is the block as it currently stands:

There is some slight glazing on the camshaft, but I don't think this is anything to be worried about...?

Oh and the injectors are back from Diesel Bob. It sounds as though they were pretty cooked, which is understandable, but the service from Bob was excellent and came in at £130 cheaper than a new set of injectors.

My next job is to separate the turbo from the manifold so that it can be sent off to be refurbished...but that's proving to be a PITA (rounded off and seized bolts!).
 
dont skim to much off block face if any, and fit new cam bearings

To be honest, I don't think they really need to do anything with the block face. I'm not sure how clearly you can see from the pics (there is a clearer one on the first page), but would you suggest leaving it as it is?

Am I correct in thinking that the camshaft bearings need to be line reamed to ensure that they fit the camshaft correctly?
 
block face normally benefits from a light emerying but that about it ,cam bearings should come ready to fit ,if fitted well no reaming or boring needed

Good stuff, thank you, that will save me £60 on refacing the block :)
