What do you mean IF it tastes good?
If its not for you then don't look at it???

Just thought it might be of interest to people who have edc engines - then they can look into it and see how good/bad it may be!

FFS!!!!

Dosent do any good unless you can get more air. A larger inter-cooler is necessary.

Do a search to back up your statement?

You would buy **** if someone told you it tasted good

so what you are saying is that all these people who get chipped and remaped are talking crap when they say how much better there cars are:doh:

there is a thread i am watching and waiting to see if it works ok, I have just got a spare pump to change the chip but that could take me a year at my current rate of progress.

I will update with the other threads link when i find it

You ought to be careful what you say,its well known that EDC TDI's can be chipped with good results - with no other mods.BMW 2.5 P38's are another good example of this.

If all the bits that need to make a complete system then its ok . Not add one at a time IMO first should be a inter-cooler as the base of the mod and then go from there. all the fuel in the world won't do with out proper air, and then through a up rated exhaust. What goes in has to come out.
A performance mod for me would be a complete system from one source for service and up grades, warranty.
Not a e-bay good deal buy cheap and then complain on here about it . And a new variable vane turbo

who has complained about an e-bay chip on here?

yes we would all like to do the whole system if we can but chipping works on its own might be better with all the mods but it still works on its own.

Ok I have had my EDC chipped But to get the most out of it I also did the following

Clean and polish inlet manifold.
Itg air filter.
Remove EGR valve.
Clean intercooler suprising how much crap was in there.
Port and polish the head. (I was doing a top end rebulid at the time the head gasket went so why not.)
decat helps with exhaust
That helps with the air situation
The next main important thing is keep on top of servicing.
It also needs to be dino tested to make shure it is all working well.
My one is puting out 142bhp at the wheels tested.

This completely changed the drivability of the disco and it is more than capable of keeping up with a manual.

who chipped it & how much?

Lots of people think large cooler is what makes the power it isnt!
More fuel makes the power, the larger cooler helps the engine last longer.
I had an 97 300 edc chipped by a well known man up north larger cooler etc went pretty well, but wasnt much better than the cheapo chip i had on it before i went to see him
In fact it took a few weeks to convince me it was better at all
Certainly wasnt worth the **** loads of money i paid him for the job

Ps dont forget the chip on e bay reqs the ecu to be stripped to be fitted so isnt a plug and play jobby, getting the ecu out on an edc is a real toss of a job

Challenger chipped it after I baught a second hand EDC ecu cant remember how much it cost but like I said befor I only done it when the head went pop.

To get more power properly you need to get a bigger bang you can't just dump more fuel as then the engine runs rich, so you need to balance the air fuel mix, that is why the the turbo pressure is put up. The bigger cooler helps cool the air that has been compressed that is it's only job this helps prevent detonation before compression. so fiting a sports filter cleaning the intercooler and polishing the inlet manifold and ports helps air flow. You can just wack a chip on but you restrict what it can do if you don't improve the rest.

is trapper having his period

Nope! Just don't like people doing a half arse job and expecting the moon. Do it right the first time.( Unless it's a emergency repair) or don't do it at all.

Like changing the oil but not the filter:doh: Have seen it asked

Can I use semi synthetic oil and extend oil change to 10k mikes :doh:seen it asked

A lot of the time people short change themselves without realizing it. So just have to say something, don't like to see the inexperienced fail. Thats all

Cant argue with that i was pointing out that cooler air does not equal more power.

well the guys with the non edc pump do not agree with you, there has been a recent post about tuning the non edc pump and they are getting loads more power, just by adjusting the pump. This is also the case with my transit which uses the same type of pump.

It seems that the disco supplies loads more air then is needed for the standard setup so just tuning the pump will work and will not make it run rich unless you over do it.

here is the link to the manual tuning thread.
