So i was driving my discovery last friday, when i heard a nasty grind/crunch, which seemed to only happen under 30mph, so i pulled over as soon as i could, got underneath it, gave the rear prop a twist, no play, then twisted/wobbled the front prop, which had a fair bit of play in it! Probably 1/4 of a turn of play. It was an intermittent noise, and occasionally it would slow the truck down a tad. That only happened once or twice.
For the rest of the 15 mile journey i didnt hear it again.
I then drove it the next day, and about 10 miles into my journey it started again, this time more severe, slowing it down, and at any speed. So i limped it home at 20/30mph.
I disconnected the front prop at the diff, felt for any play in the transfer box.. Nothing! Which made me think it was the front diff, so i took the front diff out, and absolutely nothing wrong with it or the half shafts!! Which has left me pretty confused!!
Transfer box needs replacing im thinking?
