Hi

Recently removed the EGR valve and blanked the top hose from the intercooler. Also replaced the water pump and PAS pump. On a trip to the lakes last week began to loose power on a big ascent on the motorway doing about 75 dropping to less than 50 with my foot on the floor. After that seems to lack power until you stop for a few minutes then its ok again.

Stopped and had a look under the bonnet everything seemed ok. No water lose and engine sounded like it was running ok.

Took top hose off and it had a lot of oil in it. (before it was oily up to the point the recycled exhaust gasses dried it from the EGR valve). I don't think the oil is coming from the turbo but from the emissions pipe that feeds into the air intake.

So any ideas why the lose of power? I plan to take off the intercooler and clean it out.

Its the EDC version of the engine as well. Could the ECU be being confused by something?

Have you cleaned the sedimenter recently? Jelly substance forms in it and can move around blocking your fuel supply when under load.

easy peasy, just need a spanner (11mm iirc).

You can get to it without jacking the car up, but wear goggles as you'll get rust in your eyes otherwise.

Undo bolt, withdraw while holding the cup part, then give it a tap to release the seal. Careful as you might get a mouthful of diesel!

Clean and refit.

You are supposed to replace the seals, but i didnt and have no leaks.

Thanks for the tip on the sedimeter, i was looking at getting it, but unsure if i could do it without raising car. i need a sliding trolley!

Disconnected MAF last night on the way home. It made frog all difference. Is it supposed to? I had it off while is was doing the pump.

Felix

No difference from a disconnected MAF means you need a new MAF as it isn't working. I'd also check any associated wiring, see if it isn't chafed or only loosely connected.

I can only say that I sympathise.....I am having endless trouble with EDC vehicles.Oh,sorry to be ignorant but in this sea of initials, what does MAF stand for?

Mass AirFlow Sensor (MAF)
The MAF is a key engine sensor that detects the volume of air being drawn into the engine
...if only we could all use Google...

Richard,Richard,richard.....if my question irritated you so much, why answer it?Thank you for doing so by the way.It may just be that I prefer to discuss with other forum members than go to google.:)

It didn't irritate me at all, if it had I would have ignored it :).

Ok.

Cleaned out sedimenter. Replaced all turbo hoses. Couldn't get intercooler off as the fan cowl was in the way and had no way of getting the fan off.

Went for a drive and same thing happened under acceleration on the motorway lost all power and down to 45MPH.

Symptoms seemed to be like waste gate was opening and not closing again.

Still, got around to doing a job that had been putting off cause the wife had been like "have you checked the air filter" and what would she know and found this :-

Guess the filter had been sucked into the air intake when the turbo was on full suck. So I suppose the turbo is ok then. :)

Well.... I dunno what to say to that!!!

Let us know how it feels after changing it. Surely air filter was one of your first checks?

At least your Turbo ain't knackered mate. Hope replacing that solves ur issues. Your maf sensor weren't working cus there was no air flow to sense lol
