Hi all, picked up a 300 TDi yesterday for running around in. Sound enough it seems, however the history hasn't come with the truck. It has 167k on the clock and is an auto. Advise able to get cam belt done? Also, any way of tracing any history through LR?

i would if history unkown , though cam belts going isnt that common and usually not to expensive with, not been an over head cam engine and having push rods that bend, but the worst can happen,i would also change all oils axles ,transfer box ,gearbox engine etc as engine is often only one done regulary ,300 tdi are one of the easiest engines for chaning cam belts

get yourself a haynes manual and do the 24000 mile service, which covers all oil changes etc. If no idea about cambelt this should probably be done also.

good luck with your Disco

Thanks Guys,

Quotes I have been getting vary from £180 + parts to £300 plus parts. The big question seems to be whether or not the Disco has had the recall done on the cam belt? Apparently there was a change on a roller or something years ago to stop the cam belt from sliding off. Anyone any ideas?

Nah, no time to do it myself as I work for myself. I don't mind doing the smaller jobs but an 8 hr job is just something I don't have time for. Thinks I will get it into one of the garages that quoted me. They are a small LR specialist and charge £27 an hr which seems reasonable.
